Blizzards

January 2018 saw extreme snow and sleet dumped across the East Coast, reaching as far down as the Southern States. First responders were out in freezing temperatures, checking on residents, clearing crash sites, and providing emergency care to those trapped in or injured because of the storms. A massive nor’easter in March again shut down transport and left over 1 million people without power, and again first responders answered the call.

Mudflows

The West Coast saw unprecedented winter activity as well, as mudflows followed devegetation and destabilization of ground affected by wildfires in 2017. First responders helped evacuate those in the path of moving debris. They then turned to the task of clearing highways, restoring roads and checking on those unable to evacuate in time.

Hurricanes

Several record-breaking storms hit the U.S. coastline this year, causing mass destruction and flooding in coastal regions and even further inland. First responders were there, carrying out search and rescue operations and providing help to those fleeing areas that had suffered the most damage.

Wildfires

Across the Upper Midwest and across vast swathes of California, wildfires have raged out of control. First responders include the firefighters who risk their lives to stop the spread, and valiantly stand against the flames. Entire towns have been lost but thanks to first responders many lives have been saved.

Tornadoes

2018 saw multiple tornados including an outbreak that originated in the alley of the Midwest and sprawled eastward, spawning funnel after funnel into the Southeast and Deep South. First responders were in action immediately, delivering medical support and emergency supplies to those in the paths of destruction.

Without the brave men and women who work in law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency medical services, and firefighting, natural disasters would take an even larger toll on civilians. We appreciate the services provided and the courage shown every day by those on the front lines of such events.
